The word
aromatherapy refers to the use of plant oils including
essential oils for physical and psychological wellbeing.
The origins of aromatherapy date back thousands of
years.
Essential
oils which are the pure "essence" of a plant, have been
found to provide both psychological and physical
benefits when used correctly and safely. Please note
that these oils are different to perfume oils.
True aromatherapy oils are 100% natural and do not
contain any chemicals unlike perfumed products.
Raphael's range of skincare creams and lotions are also
rich in organic ingredients.
Aromatherapy-based products work on several levels.
Firstly the aroma itself may offer both psychological
and physical benefits as the essential oils stimulate
the brain. The quickest way of drawing essential
oils into the system is by inhalation through the nose.
The vapour molecules then reach the hypothalamus and
limbic portions of the brain. This part of the
brain is the seat of the emotions, which explains why
certain smells affect our moods and stir our memories
profoundly. Neuro-chemicals are then released
which are passed on by the nervous system to the rest of
the body.
In addition
aromatherapy products which are applied to the skin are
absorbed through the skin into the blood stream. The
same is true of other preparations which are put on the
skin. It is for this reason that many people are
turning to 100% natural skincare products like Raphael.
It is believed that chemicals in skincare products can
be absorbed into the body which is a growing concern.
Raphael Aromatherapy skincare products are rich in
organic and natural ingredients.
There are many different essential oils and it is
believed that each one offer particular benefits. For example
frankincense gives new life to ageing skin
and reputedly helps to smooth out wrinkles for a real
tonic to the skin. It is also beneficial to the mind as
it slows down breathing, producing a calm feeling.
This tends to bring about an alleviating and soothing
effect on the mind.
